Fortune Law latest work experience placement Kamen Balev.
At Fortune Law we like to support the next generation of lawyers. One of the ways we do this is through work experience placements. This week we had Kamen Balev join us in the office to find out more about what life in a busy boutique law firm is all about. Here is his short report.
“When I was told I would spend two days in the office as part of the interview process, I was thrilled. What better way to learn more about the firm than to spend time on the inside? Better still was the opportunity to meet the team and see how they work together in a day-to-day setting.
Two days may seem like a short time but there was no time to get distracted. From the moment I arrived, I already had matters waiting for me to handle. A new client enquiry and an email outlining a different matter to work on. There was a lot of work to do from the beginning and it didn’t ease up until the end. Though overwhelming, it has been invaluable to me.
The team have been wonderful. All of them friendly, always ready to answer any questions that I had. I normally find it hard to ask questions from people who look busy, and the team was very busy, but they were always ready to help me with whatever I needed.
The work I was given was varied, much more than I expected for a two-day work experience. In the short amount of time I was there, I had the opportunity to work on several client matters, all of which were currently in motion. I dealt with litigation, share allotment and a company share purchase. The exposure to the reality of everyday life in a firm was unmistakable.
I enjoyed my time here and loved the environment that the team created. It provided me with experience and knowledge I wouldn’t get in many other places. I am grateful to Shainul and Rozena for being patient with me when I may have been struggling and to Alex for lending a helping hand when I was really stuck. I also want to thank them all for the wonderful opportunity to work with them, even if it was for a short time.”
